This is our farmstand. We sell milk two ways, through shares and first-come, first-serve to walk-ins. Milk share customers leave a set of clean jars when they pick up their milk so we can fill them the next week. We also sell honey and beeswax candles from Bee Happy Vermont in Hinesburg.
Our farmstand is self-serve. Sign the book with your info and leave money in the cash box. We provide lots of information about raw milk at the farmstand.
If you drive by early on a winter morning you might see this.
This is our milkroom where we bottle the milk and clean our equipment.
Our cows lined up for milking.
This line carries vacuum pressure to our machine.
Milk flows through the inflations, into the pail.
The cow holds up the whole thing with her surcingle strap. Thanks, Patsy!
Lindsay Harris has loved animals large and small her whole life. She earned a degree in Biology from Humboldt State University in Arcata, California in 2001. She was working as a field biologist and wetland ecologist for the State of Vermont when she decided to farm full time a few years ago. She is grateful to have the opportunity to provide whole, nutritious food to her community and raise animals in a kind and loving environment. It is her life's work and joy.
Evan Reiss was not born on a farm, but born a farmer. He grew up here in Hinesburg and earned his degree in Ecological Agriculture from the Universtiy of Vermont in 2008. He studied grazing, soils and sustainable practices with a passion and is now excited to apply his knowledge towards creating an efficient, healthy, and wholistic farm of his own.
Butter Taps
by Leslie McGrath
Too light, too ardent
to lay on the tongue
or take up space
between the teeth's pearly gates,
butter slips into a pale yellow coat,
and begins its inward journey
singing of the field's spiky green urges
singing of the cow's ruminations
under clover sun, under cover of cloud
singing of evening's steamy letdown
singing of the memory of the heat
the farmer's hand has pressed
on the withers of her favorite
before the lights turn low
and the latch scratches goodnight
From May to October the girls live and dine out on our beautiful, organic pastures. YUM! They only come to the barn for milking or in severe weather.

Family Cow Farmstand is a raw milk micro-dairy. We milk a few grass-fed Jersey and Guernsey cows and sell all our milk raw, directly to our community. Our focus is on milk quality and safety, not on quantity. We take great care of our cows and in handling the milk. We also teach home dairying classes about once a month at the farm and for private groups and always welcome visitors to stop by to taste some milk and meet the girls!
